Projects & Initiatives

Casa Corazón  develops special projects and initiatives that support the mission goals of the organization.  Projects can vary from medical mission teams to construction projects that provide infrastructure for the communities served.  Opportunities are available for medical professionals and lay volunteers in 2009. 

Hearts Alive Initiative - 2009

The Hearts Alive Initiative is a critical project of care.  This program provides surgeries for children averaging 6 months to 14 years who are in critical need of response.   Children who are in need of major heart surgery are brought to the US for assessment, pre-op, and surgery then cared for in host homes following surgery.  Support is provided through gift in kind and contributions to this initiative.  The costs for hospital usage is $5,000 per case.  In 2009 Casa Corazón is expected to provide 5 cases in the US equating to $25,000 worth of cost.  Care is also offered in Honduras for cases that are less critical.  This care is provided through Casa at a cost of $2,000 per case.  In 2009 Casa Corazón will see 12 cases or roughly $24,000 worth of cost.  Contributions towards this project will clearly provide opportunities of hope for these precious children.  To donate, click on the DONATE page 

Latrine Project 2009

One of the basic elements of ensuring good health in a community is providing clean water solutions.  A basic premise is ensuring the waste water is appropriately managed through a waster water system or latrine.  Homes who have no clearly designed means of addressing this issue are often subject to sickness and disease.  The implementation of a simple latrine can make a big impact on the health and wellness of a home and of a community.  In 2009 Casa Corazón will host a latrine work project available to any volunteer.  For information on this opportunity, click here and request information on the Latrine Project 2009.
